Happy Cook Hot Pad

What You'll Need:
6 x 6-inch piece of yellow fabric
6 x 8-inch piece of red fabric
Scrap of blue fabric for door
Scrap of brown fabric for windows
Scrap of gray fabric for panes
Scrap of light brown fabric for chimney
Scrap of gold print fabric for chimney cap
Scrap of green fabrics for leaves and shutters
Scrap of purple fabric for flowers
Scrap of orange fabric for sun
Paperbacked fusible webbing
1/4 yard of black fabric for background
Embroidery floss
Fleece
1/2 yard of black-and-white checkered fabric for backing and binding
#5 black pearl cotton or black spray paint, if desired
Matching threads
1-inch diameter cabone ring
Crochet hook
1/4-inch wide small red grosgrain bow

Here's How:
1. Trace the full-size pattern onto paperbacked fusible webbing. Fuse the pieces to the corresponding fabrics. Cut out the fabric pieces and fuse to 7 x 7 1/2-inch black background using the pattern as a guide. Machine-satin-stitch in matching thread or embroider according to the patterns.

2. Layer the appliqued piece, fleece and backing fabric. Quilt through all layers as desired.

3. To make the binding, cut a 36 x1 1/4-inch strip from checkered fabric. Press in half lengthwise. Turn raw edges to inside and press, leaving a 3/8-inch binding. Bind the raw edges of the hot pad. Trim excess, leaving 1/4 inch to turn under at the end.

4. Single-crochet around the cabone ring with black pearl cotton or spray-paint it black, if desired. Stitch the ring to the top left corner of the hot pad. Add a small red ribbon bow to the corner.
