February 8, 2005 (ST. LOUIS) – Mary Engelbreit Studios has entered into a license agreement with Georgia-Pacific Corp., under which the Atlanta-based manufacturer will produce and distribute Brawny® paper towels featuring 15 of the artist’s most popular designs. The agreement marks the first license for Engelbreit with Georgia-Pacific and the first time such designer prints will appear on Brawny®. The introductory line of nine everyday designs, available in multiple pack sizes, will be in stores nationwide in March 2005. The initial prints will be followed by four to six holiday designs for the 2005 season.

This unique relationship is part of the changing tide in paper towel design, which has evolved from basic prints to established character and entertainment licenses, and now, for the first time, to designer prints from Mary Engelbreit. This shift has encouraged both parties to pay close consideration to packaging, an element of the paper towel category that has previously changed very little regardless of either the licensor or the towel design.

“Although Mary Engelbreit and Brawny® essentially have the same customer base, we had to think creatively to blend the strong and sensitive qualities of the Brawny® brand with Mary Engelbreit’s art,” said Greg Hoffmann, chief executive officer of Mary Engelbreit Studios.

Mary Engelbreit Studios and the Brawny® brand team agreed that entering a consumer product category such as paper towels was a natural next step for Engelbreit, who specializes in kitchen- and family-related art celebrating the simplicities of everyday life in mainstream America. Her art is particularly well-suited to paper towels because it reflects an ideal combination of social expression and home décor.

“We were inspired by Mary Engelbreit’s unique interpretations of domestic themes,” said Gino Biondi, director of towel marketing for Georgia-Pacific. “Her soothing, artful designs not only reflect both the strong and sensitive side of Brawny® towels, but are a unique and fashionable addition to any home.”

“Mary Engelbreit Studios is a pioneer in the art licensing industry, and the relationship with Georgia-Pacific is yet another example of that," added Hoffmann. "Nearly 20 years after we licensed our first line of greeting cards, we continue to seek new opportunities and innovative ways to license Mary’s art.”
