Valentine’s Day with Linda K’s Girl Scout Troop

Had to share:
I have a girl scout troop of two girls, a 10 year old that is my granddaughter and her friend that just turned 11.

My granddaughter has grown up with Mary Engelbreit since birth but has recently become much more interested. She loves art and loves Mary’s story.

We had our weekly meeting last night and I had printed the Valentine coloring pages for both girls not knowing if they would think they were too old for them or what response I would get. They loved them and sent me to the computer to find more. I have just printed all the Christmas coloring pages for them. They worked with colored pencils and did a great job.

I decorated my kitchen and painted my brand new kitchen table and chairs (along with recovering the seats in Mary fabric) in honor of Mary Engelbreit and blogged about it here: http://gloryfeathers.blogspot.com/2008/11/very-cherry-mary-engelbreit-kitchen.html

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
I just remember having to have every magazine (loaned them out and didn’t get them back…sigh) and any time I find something Mary Engelbreit I find myself buying it and adding it to the collection. Love the art, the books, the tins, all of it!

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
Too many to name but maybe if I had to choose I would lean towards This Is The Life

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
Mary Engelbreit Cherry fabrics

Karen’s Living Room and Lamp Shades

Karen's Mary Engelbreit LampshadeRoom / Theme:
Living room/lamp shades

Description of Your Mary Decor:
I collect M.E. But my passion started with paper dolls/dolls as a child. I have used M.E. paper dolls to cover my old lamp shades and give them new life. I also did an all M.E. paper doll Christmas tree a few years ago.

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
I ordered flowers for a B.F. to cheer her up….the vase was M.E. “The Queen of every thing” Been hooked ever since that would have been in 1995?

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
Paper dolls and the silly monkey! Because of my love of paper dolls and I just love monkeys!

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
Creating and recycling something to be used again…instead of throwing it away!

Molly’s Media Room

Room / Theme:
Media room

Description of Your Mary Decor:
I took a plain wooden trash can from the craft store, painted it red with a black border, then added white polka dots and finally put a ME “wallie” on each side.

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
I think ME first came to my attention through her tea-themed dishes/teapots.

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
A few years ago, I bought a ME wall mural. It’s a cottage-style window, complete with window box, flowers, etc. I put it on the wall in my windowless bathroom. It brightens the room almost as much as a real window.

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
Red, black, and dots seems to be a running theme for ME. When I re-did my front room/media room in predominantly red, I knew just what to do when it needed a small trash can.

Deb’s ME Kitchen

Room / Theme:
ME Kitchen

Description of Your Mary Decor:
I have collected ME kitchen decor for 17 years now … and, my whole kitchen is now ME! I bring out seasonal products during holidays, etc. and enjoy the basics year round.

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
I started collecting ME artwork when I would be shopping in small gift shops and find a few select items. It was like finding “treasures” and became addictive. Then I started browsing catalogs for items … and, of course, the ME website.

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
Any and all of the tea products. Tea cups, tea pots, etc. Also the Christmas line and scottie dog! Can’t beat that combination.

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
I love the red, black and white colors together in the kitchen. And, the practical but comical artwork sayings. They always bring a smile to my face, no matter how many times I see the wall hanging or use the tea cup.

The Cherry Chick’s Home Studio

Room / Theme:
Studio/Everything ME

Description of Your Mary Decor:
My home studio is where I have the heaviest concentration of my “Mary Decor”. The entire room screams ME. My prized item is the computer armoire that I designed with ME fabric, stickers, tissue paper, old calendar prints, paper dolls from the Home Companion magazine, and ME stencils. This photo is just the right side of the room which shows my worktable and some wall decor.

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
The first time I found Mary’s whimsical artwork was wayyyy back in the 80′s when she was selling her greeting cards at the National Stationery Show in New York.

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
I have many favorites but at the top of my list is “Life is Just a Chair of Bowlies”. I love the play on words and the colorful cherries in this illustration.

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
Obviously, Mary’s illustration are inspiring but to be able to create amongst all of her wonderful artwork makes it that much easier for me. Thus a studio of inspiration was just what I needed.

Terri S Shares Her ME Kitchen!

Room / Theme:
Cutie Pie Kitchen

Description of Your Mary Decor:
It started with my first Mary purchase of the original Home Companion book. I saw a little checkerboard hand painted detail and decided to try it on the wall around the window. I don’t know what happened next, but it became contagious and the Mary just kept spreading everywhere. I remember thinking, “In this style, I have found my heart.”

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
I was at a friend’s house and noticed her kitchen wall paper boarder of fat little chef men. Shocked, because I had thought she was so sophisticated, now I realized I could confess my adoration for Mary’s art. She pulled a print out of her closet of the Chair of Bowlies and gave it to me as a gift. It now hangs in my bathroom over a child’s painted potty filled with little silver bowl; walls hand stenciled with cherries.

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
Queen of Everything and Princess of Quite A lot

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
Be Nice or Else! No arguing is allowed in this kitchen.

Lucy T’s ME Home Decor

Room / Theme:
It’s everywhere! :)

Description of Your Mary Decor:
I have a smiggin of ME in every room in my home…some rooms have more than others…some just have an ME throw or teeny tiny snow globe…but it is there…in every room! :) My craft room probably has the most ME! It will be hard to choose just one photo.

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
I found my first ME tin back in the early 80′s. It is the rabbit and bear walking Merrily arm in arm. Mary told me at the workshop, “Why did I make the rabbit as big as the bear and put clothes on them?” That is what I LOVE…the FUN in the drawing…and the quote…Merry have we met, merry have we been, merry let us part and merry meet again.” I read about Mary in Better Homes and Garden…the article in which there is a photo of Will as a baby. I LOVED the photos of her painted furniture!

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
I LOVE… “Must. Change. Attitude” The drawing reminds me of my daughter as a child! Who am I kidding…I LOVE it all!

What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
My craft room has the most ME! Attending two of Mary’s Workshops…2011 and 2012…inspired me to make my craft room a FUN place…like putting a crown on my desk lamp.. ;)

Carrie K’s ME Inspired Home Decor

Mary Engelbreit Home DecorRoom / Theme:
My whole house/Mary E

Description of Your Mary Decor:
My Mary flows throughout my home. It has become a part of my life. The bright colors and adorable motifs carry me through my day. I try to decorate with other things but I always come back to My Mary. I guess that makes me a true addict!

Describe your first experience with Mary Engelbreit’s artwork:
In the early 1980′s I bought a M.E. tin for my sister for a present. I loved it so much but I did give it to her. After that, my whole family knew that I was a Mary addict, though, and my presents started being Mary things – including dinnerware!!!

What is your favorite artwork from Mary and why?:
The little girl eating cherries, sitting in the overstuffed black chair with her feet up. Life is just a chair of bowlies….because it is so true!
What was the inspiration of your “Mary” theme?:
The inspiration came from the colors and sentiments and the adorable artwork. So fun to look for the hidden details in each picture.

Thank you Carrie for Sharing Your Mary!
